Bringing Play and Innovation to the Camera Experience

Exploring how creativity and technology intersect through experimental camera modes and AR-based games.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

At Samsung Telecom Research Center in Israel, the focus was innovation — exploring new camera technologies and turning them into usable experiences.

As part of the UX design team, I helped transform experimental ideas into fast, testable prototypes.

Our goal was to prove new concepts that could push Samsung’s mobile experience forward and strengthen its reputation for innovation.

MY ROLE

As a UX Designer, I translated complex technical capabilities into user-friendly interactions. I created rapid prototypes, tested them with users, and iterated quickly based on feedback.

Once the concepts proved valuable, we built working demos and presented them to Samsung headquarters for evaluation.

key responsibilities

● Innovation
● User Flow Design
● Wireframes
● Interaction Design
● Prototyping
● Concept testing

Case Example: Action Golf Camera Mode

One memorable project came from a teammate who loved golf and wanted to analyze swing technique.

We developed a proof of concept for a camera mode that could capture multiple frames of a golf swing and display them in a single composite image.

After early testing, we discovered that both the player and the ball needed to be positioned precisely on the screen. To make this easier, I designed on-screen visual guides showing where to stand.

We then took the working prototype to a local golf club and tested it with real players, who showed great enthusiasm for the feature. Their feedback inspired us to add several new presentation modes for visualizing the captured swing:

● Slow Motion View — plays a smooth, slow-motion video of the swing ending with a composite image.
● Touch Screen View — allows users to scrub through frames by moving their finger across the screen to view the club position closest to their touch.
● Accelerometer Control View — lets users navigate through frames by tilting the phone.
● 3×3 View — presents nine automatically selected frames in a 3×3 grid, with the swing’s midpoint centered.
● Multi-Hands View — overlays multiple club and hand positions in a single image for easy comparison.

FINAL RESULTS

During two years at Samsung, I designed over 10 proof-of-concept interfaces — including Action Shot, Plus Me Shot, My Pet game and Panorama Shot — some of which later appeared in commercial phone models.

Several of my concepts were also submitted for patent applications.
